New Riverworld Makes a Ratings Splash for SyFy Channel
Updated: 2010-04-30 05:54:08
Get it? Splash? “Riverworld”? Ahem.
If our “Riverworld” review comments section is any indication, most of the 2.1 million viewers that tuned into the SyFy Channel’s premiere of “Riverworld” didn’t like what they saw, but they nevertheless helped the channel to its highest Sunday night rating for the year.
The “Riverworld” premiere on April 18th netted 2.1 million in total viewers, with an averaged 1.03 million adults 25-54 and 733,000 adults 18-49 along with a 1.6 household rating.
Needless to say, SyFy is very happy. Now the question is: were they happy enough with the ratings to greenlight a series? Or, more importantly, do viewers actually want one?

Human was yet another fine episode of Stargate Universe. Yeaah a little slow with Rush’s dream — but we get some real insight into why that dude is soo messed up. And how about the Daniel Jackson cameo? kind of wasted in this episode wasn’t it? But you had to love the ’46′ number and [...]
The Truth – Finally!! We knew Peter would pissed when he figured out he was from an alternate Earth – and that’s exactly how it went down. The man on the bridge – clearly that’s Walter Bishop from the other Earth. Will we see the two Dr. Bishop’s? I think so – likely the other [...]
Frost is dead – Dimitry is alive and we’ve got 6 more years worth of Flashforward to watch??!! What a great episode – but now we see that Frost’s Garden of Forking Paths ends on Dec 12, 2016 – THE END. Great to See Dr. Baltar as the eccentric – i’m sure we’ll be seeing [...]
Great episode of V. We don’t think that Lisa is Fifth Column – but having her turn against her mother will be fun – oh and is she pregnant by Tyler now? – that’s going to happen! What exactly is Blue Energy – we don’t know — but the Secretary General of the UN (in [...]
issue #10 finds Buck on the Han airship — as it turns out they like prawns (eew). A relatively simple romp in this issue, that doesn’t really solve much other than to lead us to the next set of bad guys. Yeaah there is another set. After fighting genetic mutations, humans that live below ground, [...]
With months in-between issue Dark Horse has made this a tough series to follow.. But we follow cause it’s soo freakin awesome. Finally we get some action here and only one pirate group is left standing – sword law be damned. But how is Das Jennir going to save everyone here? And will he reconnect [...]
Following directly after Last Stand of New Krypton #2 – where Kandor gets rebottled.. General Zod (KNEEL BEFORE ZOD!!) figures out how to get out of the bottle. Man that was fast. A bit too fast. Then again after having been trapped in the bottle for so long the first time, it shouldn’t be a [...]
Faith was another fine Stargate Universe episode. Who or what created the mystery planet? It’s clear that the oblesik was communicating with something but what? I’m sure we’re going to find out…eventually. kinda lame that some ppl wanted to stay behind on the planet on the blind hope that some higher power was looking out [...]
Michael Trucco the actor who played Sam Anders in Battlestar Galactica is V’s John May. Nice. Oh and V (at least this episode) was director by Star Trek’s Commander Riker – John Frakes!! Isn’t it great how so many SciFi actors get recycled? Ohh and John May Doesn’t Live does he? Filed under: scifi Tagged: [...]
Yes we love Superman here at ShowMeSciFi and yes we have enjoyed ever minute of the New Krypton saga — it is quite possibly the best Superman storyline of the last 30 years. All of the story rests on the premise that the bottle city of Kandor is finally freed – now in Last Stand [...]
Cade Skywalker isn’t a Jedi He isn’t a Sith either. He is what the Force made him – or so he says. This issue we get to see Cade unleash his Dark Side and his Light Side – yeaah it was cheesy that he used the light to save the Zeltron Delilah Blue – but [...]
We really like Dark Horse’s Star Wars one-shots. These are 1 issue stories – no need to buy multiple issues to get the whole story. The latest one-shot – Purge – the Hidden Blade – is a basic but fun story. And oh yeah the artwork by Chris Scalf is AMAZING – its a neat [...]
Wil Wheaton returns in what is yet another classic Big Bang Theory episode.. This time it’s not a card game challenge – but the bowling alley – and he somehow manages to get penny to break-up with Leonard! I LOATHE YOU WIL WHEATON!! The Domino Pattern by Timothy Zahn is the fourth book in the Quadrail series (so far) and follows Odd Girl Out, The Third Lynx and Night Train to Rigel. The short review is that NO this isn’t the best book in the series, but it is still very enjoyable especially at the end. Our ‘hero’ [...]
What an amazing twist!! Who would have ever thought there were two moles in the FBI – and that Janis was one of them — or is she? Maybe she’s playing us all – then again maybe not. She did after all identify suspect zero and many other important parts of the case. She was [...]
The final episode of Caprica Season 1 before its mid-season break was easily one of the best episodes — if not the best episode – of Caprica so far. Too bad the rest of the season has been sooo slow. It has been so slow that we taped this episode a week ago but only [...]
Another decent week for FlashForward with episode 113 Blowback. Aaron goes nuts which was kinda neat to see.. Also neat to see Lloyd come into Mark’s house that was just plain weird – but now they seem to be getting along And what happened to Dmitri’s gun? Filed under: scifi Tagged: flashforward
Today Leonard Nimoy turns 79. Happy Birthday Mr. Spock! It was just the other day that Captain/Admiral William ‘ Kirk’ Shatner celebrated his birthday too. While Nimoy like Shatner has been in other TV/movies beyond Trek – including his new cameo in Fringe — Just like Shatner, for Nimoy the role of Spock is one [...]
We really like the way that ABC does these recap shows just before the second part of the season starts. After all – with V in particular – it has been three months since we last saw the visitors and not everyone remembers everything. Having the recap is a great way to get caught up [...]
William Shatner turns 79 today. Happy Birthday Captain/Admiral!! In recognition today is also talk like William Shatner day…but now we don’t joke about Shatner here.. Shatner is one of the most iconic figures in all of SciFi and he demands our respect. Sure Kirk is now a caricature of a cartoon character but everyone knows [...]
We’ve reviewed previous Star Wars Republic Commando before – most recently Order 66 -so we should have known what we were getting.. The 501st is the most legendary of all Stormtrooper legions – it is Vader’s Fist – the legion that Anakin/Darth Vader used to destroy the Jedi Temple. So you’d think that a book [...]
Did you catch the FlashForward – the season so far – recap on ABC last night? Great stuff – in one hour it captured all the major plotlines of the story so far and succinctly summarized them. We watched the recap along with someone that hadn’t seen a single episode before – and now she [...]
Yeaah we’re fans of the new Dynamite Buck Rogers series. The latest issue #9 starts off a new story arc where we get more insight into the status of Earth. You see in this version of Buck Rogers, Earth isn’t ruled by just one unified group. There are rulers of the ground, the underground (the [...]
Sooo much going on in this one issue it’s hard to review, but also ooooooh so enjoyable. We finally find out who is behind the Vongforms – none other than Darth Maladi who is now trying to take over the sith herself. Even more surprising is that she is trying to turn Cade back to [...]
Darth Bane Dynasty of Evil is the third – and final book in the Darth Bane Trilogy. We’ve previously reviewed Darth Bane Path of Destruction (in 2006) and Darth Bane Rule of Two. The first two books were among the best Star Wars books ever written. Dynasty of Evil is a good book – but [...]
After 50 issues it’s over. None of us will be getting Dark Horse Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic new issues ever again. It’s kind of sad – and it marks the end of an era. KOTOR never did truly live up to the fantastic plot of the video games and nearly every issue [...]
Our favorite Star Trek TOS episode has always been Mirror Mirror – where the Federation doesn’t exist and instead the Terran Empire reigns supreme and humans act more like the Klingons. At the end of that greatest of all Star Trek episodes (Frak you Tribbles!!!) the Kirk from the ‘regular’ universe’ tell the Spock from [...]
Skynet and its army of Terminator WILL BE BACK! But not by way of the moron that put out Terminator 4 (aka Terminator Salvation). According to a report on Deadline Hollywood, there is now a 24-page treatment for Terminator 5, and a 4-page concept outline for Terminator 6. The 2-picture construct takes place in a [...]
I don’t know what’s up with this trend for having women from SciFi shows posing in risque positions for men’s magazines. The latest actress is Fringe’s Agent Olivia Dunham – played by actress Anna Torv. In this month’s esquire she got a whole spread of topless pics – while wearing mens thermal underwear. Why? is [...]
We really miss Star Trek The Next Generation – there really isn’t a SciFi show on TV now that even comes close. Today one of the top stories on Digg was a mashup video of some TNG goodness. Yes the ‘words’ are taken out of context – but not always. And oh yeah there is [...]
We’re still figuring out Caprica – and Zoe Greystone played by actress Alexxandra Torresani. Torresani managed to find the time to pose for Maxim – in some of the most airbrushed pics we’ve ever seen. It’s not clear how much is actually the actress and how much is just photoshop. Still – they’re great pics [...]
